Some of the BEST pizza outside NY state !
By OscarLopez, November 10, 2011

I came upon Della Venturas by accident one day on my way to a friends house on the same road.
I am a real pain when it comes to good food , ( I was born in NY city , so i'm spoiled I guess ) but this is some of the best pizza and Italian food out side on NY !!
ALL FRESH INGREDIENTS !
PIZZA - 1 The dough - Joe makes the dough daily and lets the dough "proof" or rise , he doesn't rush it through like most people around Greenville .
2 The sauce - Also made DAILY the old fashioned way ** NO SUGAR ADDED If you need sugar in your sauce JUST SAY HOME AND EAT SOME CHEF BOY R Dee !
** PS That means you = Stephengrubba Your comment shows your ignorance of food and the industry. With a name like "Grubba" , well what else do I need toI say ?
3 The cheese - REAL WHOLE MILK mozzarella ** NOT skim milk cheese or "new dairy blend " ** Joe uses the real deal , it might cost him more but when you taste it you'll know the difference ( if you know food ) !!
In closing I must say that food is subjective to what your used to eating .
If you eat Chef boy R Dee or eat Pizza hut and that's what your used to , you probably wont like this pizza. BUT if you have an open mind and want to try what PIZZA IS SUPPOSED TO TASTE LIKE without a trip to NY City EAT AT DELLA VENTURAS !!!

Decent Pizza with a Bad Attitude

Decided to try Della Ventura's after driving by the establishment frequently and seeing a busy parking lot. Walked into a relatively empty dining room and asked for a table away from the front door. The woman who seemed to be in charge informed me, "We have reservations for the rest of these tables, so...." basically told me to pound sand and either sit where I will sit you or eat somewhere else. It wasn't only what she said but how she said it. Major attitude for a woman who is standing under a sign with scripture reading, "The Earth is full of the loving kindness of the Lord." I have to wonder what loving kindness this woman has towards customer service.

Ordered a side salad and pizza. Side salad was good. Pizza was NY Style, but was not New York quality. Abundant toppings, but the crust was soft and not crisp. The pizza was kind of soupy. The sauce is too acidic and needs some sugar to balance it. Good pizza for Greer but is definitely not up to par with Barley's Pizza downtown or any in NYC.

Peanut butter chocolate cake is very good. Good portion size and presented well.

There were employees standing around the front of the restaurant by the hostess stand, which was overstaffed. I saw many occasions where waitpeople with food-in-hand would stop by the hostess area for a brief conversation. Also noticed a man with pizza dough in hand left the kitchen area to have a conversation with someone in the front telephone/carry out area for several minutes. As he talked, he flipped the dough around...not a very good impression of cleanliness or professionalism.

Our waitress was very cordial and attentive. Very good skills. Checked on beverages frequently. Good service skills. Others who delivered the food could smile and be more pleasant and not look like they hate working at Della Ventura's (which may be true, but service with a smile goes a long way).

The woman from the beginning of my visit had the attitude of not needing my business. Della Ventura's certainly did not earn my business, so they are one-and-done in my dining choices. Not enough positives to get me back.

Does not live up to the Hype
By Depdawg, April 25, 2009

A typical Italian pizzeria to say the least and priced too high. Better place from the previous establishments but they want the customers to pay for it by raising all the prices. Food is decent but not to brag about and the wait especially for carry out is ridiculous. Would not go back!

typical pizza joint

The pizza is really nothing special, the ingredients are fresh, but very inconsistent pies. I have been a few times and it is a gamble each time. The competition in the area are chain stores....Della Ventura's does not stand out among them.
