Original owners Maria and Nick opened Athenian Bistro in 1968, and since then their family has been offering Greek and Italian cuisine to the neighborhood in South Asheville. Just south of downtown Asheville, Athenian is also near the hospitals and is very welcoming to families. It gets a little lively in there because, as Nick’s son Pete says ”it’s a working neighborhood!”
