Carolina Ale House provided a much-needed watering hole on a block of Main Street that has largely been without. It has two bars, a huge draft beer selection and an equally large food menu. They serve the full menu from 11 a.m. until they close. The food menu features pub grub like mozarella sticks and wings to large burgers, fish tacos, wraps, pizzas and steaks. The beer menu features both local, regional and national brews. Downstairs has a sportsbar restaurant vibe. Upstairs has a more bar feel (though food is available up there, too). When the weather is nice, they retract the roof (really!) to make upstairs a rooftop bar.

Metromix readers voted Carolina Ale House Best New Bar 2011; they were nominated for Best Burger and Best Guys Night Out Bar 2011.

Some good-looking places to try

Haven't been to these places yet, but they look like good spots to try out. Some are newer, some not-so-new. I'll update periodically.
