9. Motorhead
The case for: The 2010 documentary “Lemmy,” which tells the story of Motörhead’s sold-his-soul-to-rock-and-roll leader Lemmy Kilmister. If you need further convincing, give Motörhead’s 1980 masterwork “Ace of Spades” a spin. It cast the die for all those thrash bands, such as Metallica, who in turn have covered Motörhead numbers with religious fervor ever since.
The case against: The Motörhead catalog can get a little spotty in places, and Lemmy’s bulldozer vocals might be an acquired taste for any of the voters who elected ABBA into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
Induction precedent: Metallica (2009)
