Fans, family members and performers gathered in Cardiff, Wales, on Saturday, Oct. 8 to pay tribute to Michael Jackson with a star-studded concert featuring many of the late pop superstar's most beloved hits. Why in Cardiff? We're not sure, but maybe it was to get as far away as possible from the lurid involuntary manslaughter trial of Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, which is dragging on in Los Angeles amid much media hoopla.
"It's not about the controversy, it's not about the trial," said R&B singer Ne-Yo during the concert, which took place on a stage shaped like a giant glove. "It's about celebrating his life."
Joining Ne-Yo to celebrate Jackson and perform his hits were such luminaries as Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight, Christina Aguilera, Jamie Foxx, Cee Lo Green, Leona Lewis and a bunch of British pop acts you probably never heard of. Jackson's enormous family was divided over whether or not to attend, but in the end, La Toya, Tito, Marlon and Jackie made the trek to Wales—as did Tito's three sons (members of the boy band 3T) and MJ's own children, Paris, Prince Michael and "Blanket."
