V V Brown, 'Lollipops and Politics'
The British indie popper has had little luck marketing her work across the Atlantic thus far; her debut release, 2009's "Travelling Like the Light," peaked at No. 30 in the U.K. and No. 1 in France, but only barely cracked the U.S. Billboard 200. For her sophomore release, Brown will be attempting to raise her stock stateside; her first single, "Children," a bubbly pop number that samples an ice cream truck jingle the singer recorded on her phone and features American rapper Chiddy, is perhaps the most catchy and upbeat song to disparage today's youth. That may well be the theme for the album, guessing by the title—and we're all in favor of more palatable finger pointers. –LM
