6. Yoko Ono
At the ripe young age of 78, the widow of John Lennon has found a novel way to resuscitate her own musical career: as a dance music diva. Since 2001, she’s released a string of dance remixes of her best-known songs, starting with “Open Your Box” (also the title of a 2007 album collecting some of her most popular remixes, by artists like Basement Jaxx and Felix da Housecat) and continuing right up until this year’s “Move on Fast” and “Talking to the Universe.” Remarkably, nine of her 15 dance singles have gone to No. 1 on Billboard’s “Hot Dance Club Play” chart, making her one of the most successful dance music artists of the past decade. Who could have predicted that one of the most eccentric voices in music would become a siren call for getting your groove on?
