Kanye, Arcade Fire, Black Keys: Metromix writers and staff across the country pick their faves of 2010
As more and more music becomes available on-demand everywhere, all the time, our listening tastes have become more diverse—and more divergent—than ever before. Who needs Top 40 radio when you've got Pandora? Why settle for seeing a few bands at a local bar when you can hit a mega-festival and see 20 artists, playing everything from rap to rock to country to techno, in a single day? Why read just one critic's narrow top 10 list when you can Google your way through 100?
With all that in mind, Metromix decided this year to poll writers and staffers across our national network of sites and ask: Which album was your absolute favorite of 2010? The sometimes surprising results of that poll are presented in this gallery. It's front-loaded with albums that received multiple votes; otherwise, the picks are presented alphabetically by artist. We hope the list will help you discover some new music—or at least help convince you that the new Kanye album really is as good as everyone says it is.
