Fans watching Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Saturday at Bumbershoot
What the heck is a Bumbershoot? Think of it as Seattle's version of a Lollapalooza—but a little smaller, artier and more user-friendly. Held annually over Labor Day weekend, the 2010 edition of Seattle's Music and Arts Festival featured flying motorcycles, roving Shakespeare monologists, and tons of music, including performances by Pacific Northwest favorites the Dandy Warhols, L.A. neo-hippies Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Minnesota pop-punk veterans Motion City Soundtrack, R&B icon Mary J. Blige and up-and-coming rapper Drake. (There were also a few bigger names, including Bob Dylan, Weezer and Hole—but we weren't allowed to photograph them. Dylan we could understand, but Weezer? You're killing us, Bumbershoot!) SoCal noise punks HEALTH and New York chamber popsters Ra Ra Riot were among the many highlights earlier in the day.
