The Priests, 'Noel'
Yes, the Priests are really priests. All three singers—brothers Martin and Eugene O’Hagan and their childhood friend, David Delargy—are ordained in the Catholic church and oversee parishes in their native Northern Ireland. Their first two albums have sold over three million copies worldwide, and this, their first holiday collection, is likely to follow suit. As churchy, heavily orchestrated holiday music goes, it’s outstanding—soaring and beautifully arranged, with all three priestly voices bringing some very impressive gravitas to well-worn carols like “Joy to the World” and “The Holly and the Ivy.” Bonus for Irish music fans: Shane MacGowan of the Pogues lends his unmistakable, whiskey-soaked croon to a medley of "Little Drummer Boy" and "Peace on Earth." Talk about mixing the sacred and the profane.
