A few bummers jam band Disco Big Rig endured this summer: A family death, a relationship breakup, a car accident and one dead dog. The Clemson quintet pushed through and celebrates the third anniversary of their first gig with a Nov. 7 show at Gottrocks.

“We believe we have something…spark,” says DBR signer/guitarist Tim Ford. DBR—which also features bassist Dave Cannon, drummer Jason Owens, keyboardist Craig Cameron and guitarist Mitch Towles—counts Widespread Panic among their influences. Ford, 30, calls Allman Brothers/Gov’t Mule guitarist Warren Haynes “my Jerry Garcia.”

“I’d go anytime to see him or anything he does. A Western North Carolina guy who is preaching life to the world through music. He is a special musician.” In November 2006, DBR debuted at Loose Change, playing originals, including “Too Far Gone Blues,” to about 50 people. Since then DBR live tracks received Greenville airplay and the band performed at a 2007 Peach Bowl event in Atlanta. The group hopes to record their first studio album soon. Look for “Full-Time Job” to make the cut. “It’s a funky blues song about how women are a full-time job,” Ford says.” My girlfriend loves that song…not really.”

Disco Big Rig plays Gottrocks at 10 p.m. Nov. 7.
