Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
Though it’s not a direct adaptation of Carroll’s tale, one doesn’t have to reach far to connect Guillermo del Toro’s film with the classic story. And, though it wasn’t the sole inspiration, del Toro has admitted it was one of them. At the center of the film is a young girl who has experienced the horrors of the Spanish Civil War, and is forced to live in a world where fascism is a powerful force. But she is able to leave this dismal reality by escaping alone into a fantasy world where she meets a cast of strange, often nightmarish characters who help her understand her world. One of the monsters kind of looks like a demented white rabbit, but he's so scary we couldn't bear putting his photo below.
