Val Kilmer in "Mindhunters"
“Deep Blue Sea” director Renny Harlin tried and mostly failed to duplicate the “bet you won’t guess who’ll die first” shock of his shark movie in this enjoyably ludicrous murder mystery. A group of trainees in the FBI’s psychological profiling division discover there’s a killer in their midst while sequestered on a remote island for an advanced training exercise, and Kilmer—the biggest name in the cast—becomes the first victim. Unfortunately, Kilmer’s fading star status made the “surprise” more unintentionally funny than genuinely shocking, but the death is still gruesomely jolting. The actor’s corpse is propped up like a puppet right down to the hooks embedded in his face to stretch his mouth into a smile.
