Director Will Gluck on why he didn’t want to go R-rated…
“It’s a sexless sex comedy. It’s about sex but there’s no sex by definition in this movie. To me, the build-up to potentially having sex and the aftermath of having sex, that’s 98% of the sexual act. The sexual act, especially in high school, is seconds. It’s never attractive. No one ever says ‘the best sex I ever had was when I was 15.’ I wanted to eliminate that part. I love pushing the envelope [with language that isn’t R-rated], that was my training in television with standards and practices.”
