Can Pixar vet Stanton survive the same animation-to-live action transition that Brad Bird aced with "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol"? We'll soon find out. Long in development, this adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' human-on-Mars epic fantasy saga allows "Friday Night Lights" favorite Kitsch to test his leading man chops ahead of summer's "Battleship" (May 18). But is it a cause for concern that "John Carter" was moved from high profile summer release to lower pressure March? Given the recent balance of both hits ("Alice in Wonderland," "300") and non-events ("10,000 B.C.," "Battle: Los Angeles," "Watchmen") that have opened early March, it's hard to say.
