DTA FAQs

What is Downtown Alive? Downtown Alive has been a summer staple for those who work in Greenville’s downtown for years, but it also attracts individuals from around the Upstate with its fresh outdoor venue and laid back atmosphere. If you’ve never been, it’s definitely time for you to check it out.

Where is Downtown Alive? After a move last year to the Hyatt Regency Plaza Deck, DTA will make a return this year to its old stomping grounds, the Piazza Bergamo, located at the intersection of Coffee and Main streets. Performances will take place in front of the Bank of America building. A large grassy area near the stage provides a place for the courageous to dance, and room to put down a stadium chair or blanket if you want to sit for a spell. But you’ll need to bring your own seating, as none is provided. Most of the mixers and minglers spend all their time standing anyway, in the open area next to Main Street.

What about the music? Musical styles will range from rock to blues to funk, and reflect local, regional and national talent. Click here for the band schedule.

Is alcohol served? Yes. If you plan to purchase alcohol, you’ll need to bring a valid photo ID. The way it works is, first you stand in a line to buy a $1 wristband that indicates you’re 21 or older, along with drink tickets for $1 each, then you stand in another line to actually buy the beer or wine (all the lines may sound complicated, but the lines move pretty fast). Beer products are provided by Budweiser. Wines will vary, but a Merlot, Chardonnay and White Zin will always be available. No cash is accepted, only drink tickets. And don’t even think about it; you can’t bring your own cooler. Water and soda is also available.

What else should I leave at home? Pets are also not allowed, though kids are (I know, it’s not fair). Bicycles and skateboards are not permitted at the events.
