The grub

With a year and a half of serving the Greenville community under their belt, the management at Smiley’s is preparing to expand their menu offerings this summer. Entrees on the current menu range from salads and sandwiches to signature dishes like herb-rubbed grilled steak medallions and baked acorn squash. I opted for the chicken ala herb, billed as a “grilled, Cajun-spiced chicken breast with classic mustard BBQ sauce glaze,” topped with bacon, sautéed mushrooms and mozzarella cheese. While the barbecue sauce gave it a touch of sweetness and the mushrooms an added dimension of flavor, it wasn’t as flavorful as I expected. The fries served alongside were great—well-seasoned, crispy on the outside and softer inside.
